Larry Tobin, the founder of Jack of Sports, graduated from Cornell University and is a proud father of four. A lifelong sports enthusiast, Larry’s journey began in his youth, where he participated in a variety of sports, eventually playing professional hockey in Sweden after completing four years of varsity hockey and earning a business degree. Larry believes that children should engage in multiple sports each season, with an emphasis on participation rather than focusing on which team they play for. This holistic approach builds important physical skills and encourages social connections, while promoting a lifelong love for physical activity and well-being.
Frustrated with the high costs and lackluster quality of many sports programs, Larry created Jack of Sports as a solution: a program offering high-quality, affordable swim and multi-sport instruction. The core idea of Jack of Sports is inclusivity, making sure every child, regardless of background, has access to the program. To support this, parents are encouraged to help spread the word. Jack of Sports classes are designed to focus on skill development, motivation, and creating a fun, supportive environment.
Do you want your child to be a professional athlete? Regardless of the answer, it’s important to recognize that top athletes are often multi-talented, excelling in multiple sports. Jack of Sports emphasizes this idea, helping children stay excited and engaged while avoiding the burnout that can come with specializing too early in one sport. Our multi-sport approach fosters diverse skill sets that can be carried into a sport of choice down the road.
At Jack of Sports, we bring together children from various backgrounds, fostering a sense of equality and mutual respect. On the field, in the pool, or on the court, every child is treated equally, and we expect good behavior and full participation. This environment allows children to develop cross-cultural friendships that can last a lifetime, all while learning valuable life lessons and skills.
As a parent, it drives me crazy with the lack of tempo and creativity in many sports programs. When you enroll your child in an athletic program the expectation should be to witness your child being taught the fundamentals of the sport in a high tempo, stimulating environment. At Jack of Sports the lesson template is broken down into different stations where kids are learning specific skills with creative drills and games to reinforce these skills. No one hides at Jack of Sports. Each child has a certain number of reps and participates to the same extent as the other child who may be more advanced in the activity. The Small Games component creates an environment where all teammates are participating equally and developing both their instinctive and physical skills of the sport. The kids work their buns off without even knowing; its FANTASTIC!
As a parent, you know how frustrating it can be when sports programs lack excitement and energy. At Jack of Sports, our lessons are designed to keep kids engaged with high-energy stations and creative drills that focus on skill development. Every child gets an equal opportunity to participate and grow, no matter their experience level. Through small games and team activities, children improve both physically and instinctively without even realizing it!
